On June 25, 2010, President Obama signed the Preservation of Access to Care for Medicare Beneficiaries and Pension Relief Act of 2010. This law includes a provision for a 2.2 percent increase to the 2010 Physician Fee Schedule effective June 2 through November 30th. How Does This Affect Claims Processing?
Instructions regarding the reprocessing of claims paid prior to the implementation of this law depends on individual Medicare contractors. Some will automatically reprocess claims already submitted at the lower rate. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you contact the provider relations department for your Medicare carrier or visit their website to see HOW they plan to proceed.
What about December 2010?
While it would make logical sense to have this conversion factor continue through the remainder of the year, our tax dollars will be hard at work again in the fall. We do not know what will happen in December. The saga continues...
